CrewLounge AERO has offices near Hasselt (Belgium), Hanoi (Vietnam) and Cebu (Philippines). The Cebu division, hosting our customer support and desktop development, is badly hit by Typhoon Rai on December 17th.
Typhoon Rai, known locally as Odette, is the 15th typhoon to hit the Philippines this year. Rai initially presented itself as a moderate storm. But just before landfall, the storm grew into a Category 5 hurricane, with wind gusts above 300 km/h (185 mph) and excessive rain.
Across the country, approximately 100,000 homes are damaged or flooded. The walls of the 3-floor car parking in our office building are literally blown out of the building (photo). All electricity and internet connections have been cut. Our building is currently running on a diesel emergency power generator, but it may take days before we have internet connection.
At the time of publication, we are not yet in contact with all our team members in Cebu. We hope that everyone is doing well. This is our biggest concern right now!
Our team members face damage to their home. Some literally have no roof over their heads, while others have their house flooded.
“Our main concern at this moment is our team, their families and their private situation.”, says Pat BOONE, business manager at CrewLounge AERO. “We are forced to suspend our customer support for a few days.”
